ADHD and Me: How neurodivergence serves my testing

Brains are weird, neat, squishy things. Mine has been diagnosed with things like ADHD, anxiety, and depression, with a list of common behaviors that go along with it. To some people, this might sound like terrible news. But, I have a different take on my particular collection of mental conditions. I can use pieces of my experience living with them, and turn them into useful tools. When looking at the challenges that I face as a software tester, I want to present you with some examples of how neurodivergence can be harnessed to work for me - instead of against me. Come listen to these stories of how these mental powers help boost my curiosity, empathy, and effectiveness. You may just learn something about your own brain along the way.

Advanced Testing with Xray: how to combine tools and humans

Tools can be used to augment tester capabilities and let them be more efficient so they can have time for deeper testing, uncovering problems that otherwise could escape unnoticed. During this session, we'll look at some of the latest features of the leading test management tool in Jira (Xray), namely some that are part of the new Xray Enterprise offering. • In this session: • we'll see how we can efficiently design tests that can expose important bugs • we'll see how we easily run test automation right from Jira and track their impacts on Jira • how humans can use their unique skills to find important bugs using exploratory testing • how we can combine all of the previous, to have a more complete overview of quality

What is Software QA, its purpose and job role?

Nowadays, there are several ideas, several areas of development... But do you really know what Software QA is? In this presentation you'll learn about the career path of a QA (that's more than automation), its importance and responsibility in a SDLC, interactions with other teams and roles and a brief insight into the huge number of testing possibilities.

A little less testing, a little more quality

I've done testing in various forms throughout my career. Automated, exploratory, scripted, you name it! Over the years though, I've been through situations where even with all the testing in the world we couldn't quite avoid serious quality problems with the software we were releasing. Have you ever been in such a situation as well? Or is it something you haven’t considered before? If there's one thing I've learned, it's that software testing is an integral part of our pursuit for quality but is often not enough. I have several personal stories to tell! Like the time I realized that we needed shorter release cycles for faster feedback loops. Ultimately, that required a change in the architecture of the product. There was also the time we changed our release strategy to progressively roll out new features to customers, so that we could increase our confidence on the software we were shipping. Or even the time I had to redirect my attention to the way developers were working and behaving, rather than just looking at how testing was being done. With all of them, I learned how quality is a byproduct of various disciplines and not just necessarily of extensive testing. And in retrospect, this made me think of myself as more than an expert in testing, but as a quality engineer. In this talk, I'll go deeper into this topic and share some of those stories. I will tell you how I reason about quality risks and how to choose between doing some form of testing or something completely different. Rest assured though, this talk is not in any way against testing. It's about how testing should be done at the right places and at the right time, and how sometimes what your team needs isn't testing at all!

AI is changing the QA game

We are in some new age that came very fast and almost invisible and bring a lot of changes in our life, in all industries and also in our IT world. Testing is just one of the areas where we have strong influence of AI that is entering. The game is changing and we need to adopt new technologies, approaches and to be in the line with a new game. What that means in QA world?! Test automation is changing. Machine learning algorithms can recognize patterns in test data and develop test scripts, reducing the effort that is required for creating the scripts but also the time that is needed for automation test creating. We will show small example of using AI in automation testing-how to do it. Testing is getting with AI some new clothes and we need to adjust our work to new show.
